Into The Otherworld: A Discussion of Mythology, Folklore and Writing with Ali Isaac of Aliisaacstoryteller and Anthony Murphy of Mythical Ireland.
This will be a very special evening hosted by David Halpin of Circle Stories. During the talk Ali, Anthony and David will explore the influence of folklore and mythology in writing, as well as the archetypal motifs which recur in our personal lives and culture in general.
The evening will also ask what it means to be a writer of both fiction and non-fiction in this context and how art, the individual and ancestral influence sometimes intersect.
This will be an informal chat which will offer a unique opportunity to hear from two of Ireland’s leading mythological writers.
Anthony Murphy is a journalist, photographer, author and astronomer who lives in Drogheda, at the gateway to Ireland’s historic Boyne Valley. He has spent 20 years researching, photographing and writing about the ancient megalithic monuments of the Boyne Valley and their associated mythology, cosmology and alignments. Anthony has made headlines across the entire world with his recent archaeological discoveries and is also writer of fiction, incorporating his own personal historical insights into his work.
Ali Isaac is currently a student of English and Irish History at Maynooth University as well as being a writer of fiction and non-fiction focusing on Irish folklore and mythology. Ali is also one of Ireland’s leading bloggers and her work was recognised this year as a finalist in the Arts and Culture category of The Irish Blog Awards 2018.
